From 1985 through June 2008, CPSC received reports of 27 deaths and 70 non-fatal incidents involving the entanglement of children’s clothing drawstrings.

Works For Me Wednesday

Want some free extra heat? We've been getting some! It has turned chilly here and the last few nights I've cooked something in the oven for dinner/supper and afterwards we will leave the oven door open and let the "left over heat" come out into the house. Now, I know this isn't for everyone, especially if you have any little ones running around, but my two are older so don't have to worry about that. The only thing we have to watch is our Basset Hound, but usually he is sitting waiting for us to drop something while we are eating anyway. I know some may be leery of this if they have a gas stove, but we have a crazy electric stove--can you tell I'm not too crazy about an electric stove?lol So, do what you are comfortable with. But...this works for me!

Tackle It Tuesday

Here is what my DH and I "tackled"----our basement...dun dun dun--lol
I didn't take before pictures-sorry. We actually got going on it and I was NOT about to stop to go get the camera!! Ok, these were actually wine racks-yes, I said wine racks. We bought this house off of a relative and they made their own wine--? Uh, anyway--we do NOT drink. So, needless to say this was all a waste of space, so a couple of years ago my DH went down there and tore out the "dividers" so we could use the space for storage. And we have been..but for anything and everything--come on, you know how it is..the basement is the catch all for everything! So, I had said that we really needed to go thru some things in the basement--especially the shelves to make space for our "stock pile"--now granted I don't have too much of a stock pile yet-but I am working on it--give me a chance, I just got going on all this stuff not too long ago and I'm still learning! I have high hopes and ambitions though! So, we will now have a good amount of space to use for the stock pile as I build it--woohoo!!

Enchilada Casserole

Here's what we had for supper last night--Enchilada Casserole. Now, I can't take the credit for all this..I got this recipe YEARS ago from my girlfriend since 3rd grade--ok, not YEARS ago, just a BIT ago-lol!! Anyway, there isn't an exact recipe to this, but it goes something like this:

Tortillas--it actually "calls" for corn tortillas but we don't care for them, so I just use flour tortillas-how many will depend on how many layers you make
1 1/2-2 lbs hamburger
Taco Seasoning
1 Jar Salsa
8oz Shredded Mozarella
8oz Shredded Sharp Cheddar

Brown hamburger, then add taco seasoning
In casserole dish lay out some of your tortillas
then alternate your salsa and cheeses and repeat once or twice more

Now, I have made this different ways...I added refried beans last night-just gives it more "filler". I have just used a mix type shredded cheese if I don't have the two separate cheeses. No matter exactly how you make it always seems to turn out pretty good! We usually have it with some spanish rice and of course sour cream!

Sunday...

Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Colossians 3:23-25 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism."

Frugal Friday

Need charged up?? We did! A new battery that is!
The battery on my Jeep Grand Cherokee has decided in the last 2-3 weeks that it has had enough. So, we-mainly my DH, started looking around comparing prices on new batteries. I evidently am rubbing off on him, because he would look & compare prices while we would be in Wal-mart, etc and he "investigated" online quite a bit too, trying to find a good deal--and he DID! At least we think so. The average we were finding everywhere was $75-80, of course that depends on the "size" you want, etc Well, he found one on sale at Rural King for $45 for a 650cold cranking amp battery, my dad thought that we should get a bigger one than that, but it sits inside the garage and that is the size that is in it now and it has lasted for QUITE a while, so my DH went to pick up a new battery on his lunch hour. Anyway, that is almost half cheaper than the prices he was seeing everywhere else, so just by taking some time and doing some research we have saved $35-40!!! YEAH!!!

Thank the Lord for his help to find "frugal finds" and helping to stretch our money.

Stuffed Pasta Shells mm,mmm, good!

Here's what we had for dinner last night...

(sorry, I took a bite of it before taking the picture--I was hungry! lol)

I got this recipe from Robyn's Online World. Visit her blog for the recipe here. I used plain ol hamburger instead of ground sirloin, other than that I followed her recipe. We had a salad I made and breadsticks with the stuffed shells and we all ate it up!! I've got some left over that we will have in the next few days as leftovers for another meal too!

Works For Me Wednesday

Ok, I absolutely CANNOT stand to clean the oven! I forget exactly where I seen this tip (sorry!)You spray your oven with water using a water bottle, then sprinkle baking soda all over and let it sit. Keep checking it here and there and see if you need to spray more water and apply more baking soda. After letting it sit for awhile-how long depends on how bad your oven is--:)you just wipe clean. How easy is that!! And no awful fumes! Doesn't make me like it any better, but it sure was easier!!

Here is a before/during picture:

and after:

not bad huh?

Trash to Treasure & Gratituesday A Free Freezer!!!

and

This was sitting out at an older lady's house cat-a-corner behind us.

I called to make sure it worked, sure didn't want to haul the thing home if it didn't work! Her daughter told me it did, at least it did when she unplugged it and they hauled it out to get rid of. So,my DH tried to go and get it the next morning before going to work, but he couldn't get it on the two wheel cart by himself with it being a little ackward to balance by one, so later that afternoon when our youngest got home we went to get it-didn't want anyone else to get it! We couldn't get it by ourselves, because...the thing was full of food and ice!! It hadn't been defrosted in I don't know how long! Well, I called my dad and he came over on his golf cart, he thought maybe we could get it on the back part of his golf cart that folds down and kind of works as a flat bed--uh, no--way too heavy! So, we got the two wheel cart again and finally between the 3 of us got it strapped on it, and then my youngest and I sit on the back of the golf cart as my dad starts to slowly drive off, but the freezer kept trying to flip up-gravity was working against us. We tried a couple more times with me & the youngest trying to hold the cart down against the golf cart as dad would drive--are you getting a crazy picture in your head of all this!??! In the end our youngest & my dad ended up pushing it to our garage. He and I cleaned it all out-no, I did not take any before pictures--I was thinking of it then to be honest with you after all that, and between the old food and the BLOCK of ice... Anyway, we got it all cleaned out, then I washed it out and we plugged it in...and.....IT WORKS!!! So, we have a little upright freezer, it's a 9 cubic foot(it comes to my chest-and I'm 5'5") to go with our little chest freezer! Praise the Lord for his many blessings!

It's been a loong time

Well, It has been a loonnngg time since I have been able to post anything. There has been quite a bit that has been going on in our lives and needless to say it has threw any type of routine out the window! My 87 year old grandmother had to be rushed to the hospital 3-4 Sundays ago, our Sunday School class was just starting and my cell phone was going nuts with texts and phone calls all at the same time. She had to spend the week in the hospital and has been weak and so forth until just the past week since getting home. They can't seem to figure out what is exactly the problem, but she is having quite a bit of stomach problems--pain and sick at her stomach. And her blood count shows that she is losing blood somewhere. They have done test after test and can't seem to figure out where she is losing blood. She has to go this coming week to talk to a surgeon about possible exploratory surgery, but she will have to also talk with the heart doctor to see if surgery is even a possibility. And...at the same time our youngest has been going thru all kinds of tests also, he is showing some certain symptoms but nothing has definitely shown up, we just had another scan late yesterday afternoon, which could or with God's help NOT indicate a couple of serious things. I am really trying to pray and believe and trust in God for my son's health in this. All prayers are really appreciated!! So, I'm going to try to get back into some type of routine and get back to this blogging business in between all these things still going on--who knows maybe it will help to give some type of routine or normalcy, if there is such a thing!!
